The pro/con list that explains why solar lights are so beneficial.
The pros: Solar energy is a renewable resource, energy from the sun is free, solar energy is non-polluting, solar cells are silent, solar powered lights are easy to install, LED bulbs used in solar lights last for 100,000 hours, LED bulbs do not hurt the environment, rechargeable batteries used in solar lights should recharge up to 1000 times or last for 2 or more years under normal everyday use, thus less waste. Finally, solar lighting does not require electricity so there are no wires to install.
The cons: Solar cells require the sun to charge. However, with a quality solar light, the sun’s energy can even be found on cloudy days. Rechargeable batteries can be expensive. However, if you compare the cost of replacing regular batteries with the same use, there is no comparison. Rechargeable batteries win. Cheap solar lights often fail during the first season. The price of solar lights will vary but it is cost effective to purchase quality/reliable lighting.
